For the starving writer - starving for a welcoming environment for his or her ideas, for a place to explore what brings joy and turns you on to your very core - WordBRIDGE is like a creative orgy.  This past June, actors, directors, dramaturgs, designers and storytellers of the highest caliber gathered to extend an enthusiastic and thirsty hand to my ideas, my hopes, and dreams for why I do what I do.  From the moment I arrived, I was treated like a playwright who had been published time and time again, as though the heart of my work was of the utmost value: as much to the gathered artists' lives who worked on my team as to the theatre community at large.

How can this be, you say?  This sounds like a fantasy!  Surely this KT person - whomever she is - has some vested interest in this "lab" and these "people."  Well yes, I do.  I will invest my energy financially and emotionally to ensure that this experience exists for writers in the future.  All of this positive energy and trust of the written material gushes from a love of theatre--a real and simple love, like the kind of love you experience on your first crush and your soul mate at the same time.  No one is trying to mask any hidden agenda: the conference exists for the writer and everyone there is along for the amazing ride, facilitator or participant.   By the end, you find you have fallen in love with nearly every person you've met, and they with you.  If I am ever fortunate enough to attend WordBRIDGE again, I might attempt to get into a fist fight with some unsuspecting contributor just to test my theory; I'd love to see if, by the end of the two weeks, we have professed our love from behind the bruises and promised to run away to Oahu together and start a shadow puppet theatre.  Anything is possible.

WordBRIDGE was, by far, one of the most phenomenal experiences I've had in the theatre community. I completely changed the way I look at my writing and the way I look at theatre in general. It gave me a whole community of talented artists to turn to and my play underwent an amazing metamorphosis. I came out of the whole experience with a new concept of art, collaboration, dedication, and community.

This was my first experience with WordBRIDGE and I have to say it was a real pleasure. The opportunity to work with other professionals and the very talented playwrights was exciting and rewarding. The new friendships made here and the spirit of cooperation I witnessed will stay with me.

I looked around the circle at the last company meeting and knew the name of every single person I was sitting with. That amazed me. I think that says it all. If that doesn’t say it for whoever is reading this, then I think you should come here and watch people learning to love and respect each other as people and artists/craftsmen smiling and hugging and challenging and changing each other.

Returning to New York City and New Haven it hit me just how focused and intense the week was. Very high energy, high degree of concentration, enthusiasm and TALENT. I believe that having so few distractions at Clemson helped the process immensely. And the theatre and rehearsal rooms were just right! You were all so gracious, welcoming and hospitable.

I absolutely loved WordBRIDGE! It was a great experience and I look forward for more to come. I learned so much and I hope that this was as good for everyone else as it was for me. Thank you to everyone who made it possible for this to take place.

The best thing about this process was the diversity of voices and areas of expertise. The resource artists, for instance, were invaluable, particularly Jeff Wirth. The most valuable thing for the playwrights involved was the discovery of so many new tools they may not have known they had. Thanks for the fresh air, focus.

This experience has been absolutely amazing. I have been so exposed to theatre in a whole new way and have really enjoyed seeing how everyone grows and changes throughout. I feel so creatively inspired. I have a huge desire to act, to write, to do anything in a creative sense. Not only that, but I also feel more determined and confident in reaching for and achieving my theatrical and creative goals. I have met so many amazing people and am thankful for those connections.
